Danes
Claire Danes won widespread acclaim for her
role on the critically-hailed ensemble series "My So-Called
Life." Her portrayal of the trials and times of a teenager
named Angela was recognized by an Emmy nomination and a Golden
Globe Award for Best Actress in a television drama.
Danes quickly moved into films, making her feature debut in
Gillian Armstrong's version of the classic Louisa May Alcott
novel, "Little Women." Her portrayal of the frail third
daughter, Beth, earned her rave reviews.
Danes went on to appear in Jocelyn Moorhouse's "How To Make
An American Quilt," and Jodie Foster's family comedy, "Home
for the Holidays." She is also starring in "To Gillian
On Her 37th Birthday."
Born and raised in New York, Danes began modern dance classes at
age four. However, she always aspired to be an actress, and
enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theater at the age of ten to pursue
her dream. Additionally, she attended Dalton High School and the
Professional Performing Arts School. She began performing in
modern dancing theater productions, including "Happiness,"
at the Duo Theatre, "Kids on the Stage," at the Grand
Central Partnership and "Punk Ballet," at the New Ritz
Theater.
Danes recently completed "Polish Wedding" opposite
Gabriel Byrne and Lena Olin. Her next film projects are Oliver
Stone's "Stray Dogs" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The
Rainmaker," based on John Grisham's novel. She performed the
female lead act in Romeo and Juliet.
